We have had a very busy time half term and normal business resumed once the snow and holidays were out of the way! On the 3/4 March we a had a visit from Sarah Dargue from Newcastle. Like Beth, Sarah is also a Son-Rise trained facilitator and trained in other therapies too. Sarah’s visit was very useful and she was able to give feedback to all our volunteers and myself and Warwick and be there for our team meeting, which really helped us all. Sarah helped us to review our goals and set new Read More >

Sorry its been a while! Christmas was lovely and Henry was the best he had ever been on Christmas Day. He stayed in the lounge with us for a start! And he loved opening his presents saying ‘open more presants’ and was dissappointed when he’d had his last one! He wanted to open everything as well as soon as he’s unwrapped it and had a little play with everything! Returning to normality was not quite as relaxed. Henry has been very rigid and controlling since Christmas whic Read More >

Its all been a bit a of a whirlwind! The charity nights were amazing and we were so touched by everyone’s generosity and kindness and there are more about them on the fundraising pages! After the partying it was back to business on Monday with our first out-reach (which is where the first part of the money raised was spent). Beth Burton, who trained at the institute in the states, came and worked with Henry for 2 days and the whole team got the chance to see her in action. For the voluntee Read More >

Yesterday the week didn’t start too well, unfortunately Jo got bitten by Henry after he got very upset about something we are not sure about. We really hoped this would never happen, but Jo managed to turn it around and they had a really nice interaction with Crocodile and the roly poly action! So well done Jo and so sorry. Nicky did really well with Henry yesterday and he interacted with her really well, Nicky bought her trains in and Henry really enjoyed those. But today has been fantast Read More >

It has been a long, hard week but we have still had some really good moments with Henry, its just that the difficult ones seem to have prevalent! Henry’s behaviour has been very rigid and controlling this week and he seems to be isming a lot more and has got him self into an agressive state every day so far. We really think that this has a lot, if not all, to do with the fact that he is so hungry. We seem to be feeling around in the dark at the moment with the diet, we’ve got so far Read More >

Can’t believe where the time has gone! The Friday didn’t get much better, in fact it was probably worse,  since I wrote the last entry, but the good news is that last week and so far this week things have been going great! Caroline, one of my closest friends, was out first volunteer who joined Henry in the playroom – thank you Caz, you were fantastic! Henry really enjoyed it with Caz and they did 45 minutes in their first session and then last Tuesday they did nearly 2 hours together Read More >

The worst day so far. It started out well. I had taken the hoopla game in although Henry didn’t want to play it traditionally! I joined him when he was dropping the hoops behind the radiator and then he began sharing the hoops with me and realising when one was stuck because we couldn’t have 2 each – which was great (he also said thank you when I gave him a hoop!). We then played with them as hats (see photo!) and Henry counted to 10 nearly perfectly on his own before we fell o Read More >

We ended the week well last week, but had a shaky start yesterday mainly down to me!  I struggled to get back into it and concentrate just on Henry, but having said that we still did alot.  Henry has found a game that he really likes playing which I think is more of an ‘ism’ (repetitive and solitary) and involves dropping objects through a piece if clothing and I find it really hard to build on this and progress his learning when I do get green lights from him. Today we have progre Read More >

Its been a long week! Henry is so worn out he asked to go to bed at 5.20 pm, bless him!  We have done some serious hours this week and I have got over my 2 hour mental block! We have done about 16 hours so far this week which is the most we’ve ever done and the longest Henry has spent in the playroom. Its working out well with me and Henry staying in the playroom from 11-3 (with Warwick bringing our lunch in ’cause once he is out its very hard to get him back in, which is what happ Read More >

Today’s session starred Mr Frog from the pop-up toy! We started playing with the toy pretending it was asleep when he put him inside and that Henry had woken him up when he ‘popped’ him out! Then it turned into a catch game with froggy, then a throw and chase game intercepted with being certain farm animals (there are pictures on the wall of farm animals and if Henry threw the frog near one of these I became that animal, and I haven’t even had a glass of wine, although my Read More >
